Iron Horses to Woodedn Horses ride to Burlington Co
Judy Rogers - June 9th 2008
We left the Flying J with 16 bikes and 19 riders! The weather was warm but not hot and just a little breezy. Hiway 36 eastbound was a pleasant relaxing ride to Cope Co. where we discovered our long supported gas station was out of business!
We dropped S to Siebert for fuel and then took hwy 24 on to Burlington. We arrived at the Kit Carson County Fairgrounds and explored the great updated museum with interesting pictures and facts about the fully restored historic carousel. Then one of the volunteers took us out to the carousel and gave a great history lesson, and we took a 25cent Carousel ride. It was great fun! Now we're all hungry!! Based on a tip from a local (my cousin!), we found a wonderful small Mexican restaurant downtown with fast service and great food. We rode I-70 back to Limon in the wind, and some of the northern riders split off to take I-70 back to Denver. The rest of us came back on Hwy 86 thru Kiowa, Elizabeth and Franktown, splitting off as we neared home. What a great day with great
friends! Thanks for coming along!
