9-22-2007 2nd Annual Dogs & Hogs Poker Run
Lynn Van Eperen - September 24th 2007
Wow! We had somewhere over 125 participants in the 2nd Annual Dogs & Hogs Poker Run/Dog Walk to benefit Table Mountain Animal Shelter. That is about a 20-25% increase from the first run last year.
The registration for the Poker Run started at 8:00 am, with the last bike out at 10:30 am. I was working the registration table this year-so I did not get to go on the ride, but Mark did and he said that the route was even better this year. The first stop was at Red Rocks at the Trading Post. The second stop was in Conifer at the same little cafe that we stopped at last year. The next stop was at Hiwan Homestead Park in Evergreen. The final two stops were unchanged-Lookout Mountain and Table Mountain Animal Shelter.
The dog walk also went well and the dogs and their people had a good time with their Poker Walk (though we did have to explain the concept to many of them).
The grand prize for high hand (Bikes) was a $50.00 gift certificate from Fitzgerald's Casino and $100.00 gift certificate from Freedom HD. The 2nd highest hand won an autographed Arlen Ness book and a $25.00 gift card from Rocky Mountain HD in Castle Rock. The low hand winner got a $25.00 gift certificate from MotoGear Outlet.
Door prizes (T Shirts from Sun, Coyote, Aurora Honda and Performance Cycle along with posters of the Ten-Mile and Gore ranges or posters of the entire front range) were drawn for at the last stop.
Catfish and the Crawlers entertained all the folks as they came back from the run and awaited the tabulation of the results. There was also a concessionaire selling burgers, dogs and other food/drink for folks as they awaited the last few bikes arrival.
The 50/50 winner took home $68.00 this year; however, we also drew for a $25.00 gift certificate to Rocky Mountain Kawasaki and a $25.00 gift certificate from Xtreme Performance from the same pool. In addition, we also drew for assorted merchandise-including another autographed Arlen Ness book, a HD blanket from Freedom HD and Coors labeled items from the same pool.
All in all, the ride went very well this year. Everyone who came told us that they had a good time and were happy to help out with a good cause. The ride route was very nice-and the weather held up very well for the ride. The prizes were great-and everyone went home with at least a poster as a door prize. Next year promises to be an even bigger event and a better time!
