Laconia Bike Rally 06/12/07

Larry Faut - July 20th 2007

What an experience. Chelle and I had heard how much fun it was from Frank & Olga. They had gone to the rally a few years back. Everyone back here had a totally different perspective on distance than what we did. To them thirty mile was a long way. To us, we thought it was a short hop.

We landed in Manchester New Hampshire. It was a quick hop to Laconia from there if you eliminate the 47 mile detour caused by missing our turn off. We could really see why this rally is so popular. There are so many twisties. The only problem is the trees. Everywhere you go they lined the road so we didn't get much sightseeing done from the roadway. If you are fortunate enough to come back here I hope you like water. It is everywhere. The boat garages back here are like the car garages back home. This part of the country is famous for having the oldest tourist community in the country (Wolfboro).

We did get the opportunity to cover three of the four states while we were there. From Laconia we were only 54 miles away from Portland Maine and 60 mile away from Massachusetts. If we would have had a mind to we could have gone the other direction and discover that we were 60 miles form Vermont.

I would recommend this trip to anyone. It didn't really sink just how far from home we were until I looked at the map once we got home. There is so much history to see back there. The one thing we wanted to do and just didn't get enough time to do it was go on a tour of all the covered bridges.
