12-10-2006 Wal-Mart Holiday Spirit Express

Lynn Van Eperen - December 14th 2006

It was a lovely day for a ride on Sunday. This one was scheduled to leave from the Wal-Mart at 92nd & Sheridan and escort a semi-load of presents, clothing and food to the Salvation Army Warehouse. The stuff that filled the truck was donated by employees, customers and the bikers who came to be the escort.

This was the 4th annual run-although it was the first time Mark & I had ever heard of it. It was pretty well attended (probably about 150 bikes there) despite the lack of promotion for the ride. Mark and I live less than 2 miles from the store, and this was the first time we heard of the ride.

The group of riders was very diverse, including a large contingent from CMA, and a couple of the three-patch clubs.

We left the parking lot at about 11:00 am, with a police escort blocking intersections and making sure we stayed together all the way to the warehouse. Both Denver and Westminster MC enforcement units were out doing escort duty.

The person coordinating the drop at the Salvation Army had quit a few days before, so no arrangements were in place for the drop; however, the SA quickly recovered and got someone there so we could unload the truck into their warehouse.

Beal Trahan, Mark and I were all there from the club. We also saw Siggi and Gary F. out for the ride.

It was a lot of fun, and we will try to find out about it sooner next year, so that it can be on the ride calendar in time for more members to attend.
