07-29-2006 Saratoga Overniter
Judy Rogers - July 29th 2006
7 bikes - 9 riders met for a hearty breakfast @ Cracker Barrel on 120th & I-25. They headed N to meet 'their leader' in Ft Collins. 8 bikes and 10 riders took hwy 287 N to Laramie, Wyo.
With all the rain we've had, the countryside was green and lush and the antelope were out munching. We did a bit of munching of our own in Laramie before heading toward the high country of the Snowy Range Mtns. The temps became pleasant at the top as we enjoyed the abundant wild flowers and scenic views.
We headed west and decended into hot temps again. Some rode on to Saratoga to check into their rooms and some rode down to the Encampment Museum to check out the Black Powder shoot and Mountain Man Event. There were interesting things to see, black powder rifles, tomahawk throwing, leather work and buckskins. Even one fella wearing only a loin cloth! A short ride back to Saratoga, a walk to dinner then a walk to the Hobo Hot Springs - key word HOT. The brave headed into the river to find more tolerable water temps. Sunday brought a great ride home south thru Walden to Granby then Winter Park and over Berthoud Pass. Sunday afternoon traffic on I-70 was no picnic, but a great weekend with great folks couldn't be tarnished! Come join us next time!
