07-16-2006 Manitou Springs Ride

Larry Faut - July 16th 2006

There was one word you could use to discride this ride, HOT!!!!! We met as scheduled at the Conoco off Sante Fe and C-470. This was going to be the first ride where we had some riders coming over from the group out of Outlaw Leathers in Castle Rock.

We started the ride with 13 bikes heading south along Sante Fe. We broke off in Louviers and took the back way into Sadalia where we picked up 67. This was the first time I have taken 105 since they had begun the road work. It looks like the work is almost complete. We came across a few spots that were still milled, however it was nothing like what we have encountered on I-25.

We managed to keep everyone together to Palmer Lake where we stopped for a picture opportunity and to begin dressing down. To avoid the traffic in Monument we took County Line across to 83 and headed south. It was amazing how we managed to keep everyone together until we hit I-25.

The short section we had to take from the Intel junction with I-25 and Fillmore was filled with the usuall amount of heavy traffic, road construction and not so bright people. We managed to get everyone together at the Fillmore exit and made our way to the Manitou Springs Steak and Pancake House.

When we pulled into the parking lot it was as if our two favorite waitresses where expecting us. We manged to get everyone together on the patio and the entertainment began. If you have never been to this loaction, the entertaiment I am talking about are the two older waitresses who always manage to take care of us. They are a stand up comedy show in their own right.

The exscursion into Manitou was cut short because of the heat. We took a vote and everyone decided to head back north to Outlaw Leathers. The ride north went without mishap and by the time we reached Outlaw Leathers the grand opening party was in full swing.

This was a great ride, heat and all. Eveyone watched out for each other and the group stayed tight. The party at Outlaw Leathers was a lot of fun. Over all this was one great day.
