05-13-2006 Pre-Mother's Day Ride
Nancy Stern-Jude - May 13th 2006
For those of you who missed the Pre-Mother’s Day ride on Saturday, May 13, you missed a great ride. Lynn and I did a pre-ride on Friday to make sure the directions I had were going to work. We only made it as far as La Casona on Friday before we called it a day because of the very warm weather and traffic. There also was the issue of the arm waving by me when a wasp got caught in my shirt and stung me twice before leaving.
On Saturday morning, it was Lynn and I looking at three dozen donuts and hearing them call our names at Xtreme Performance Center. Needless to say, we didn’t make pigs of ourselves. (I think the sales group was very happy that we left donuts for them.) At 10:15, we made the decision to leave and head for our first destination, Aurora History Museum. The ride down Lake Gulch road was wonderful and the weather was perfect. We headed up Parker Road to Highway 86 where we headed east to Flintwood. I did find Bayou Gulch road and headed back up to Parker Road. We decided as we headed into Parker that it was good there wasn’t a lot of people because traffic was heavy due to the 25th Anniversary celebration in Parker.
We landed at the Aurora Museum without incident. The Rock and Roll display was interesting and we had fun discussing how the museum had divided the last forty plus years of bands into groups. (Did you know The Jackson 5 was considered Soul music? We thought they were Pop.) We then walked over to the interactive room where there was a wonderful replica of a home along with period clothing (did you know 60’s, 70’s and 80’s are called period clothing?).
At this point, we decided we would forgo heading over to La Casona for lunch and instead went on a scenic route to Gran Prix’s open house (Lynn was leading so we wouldn’t get lost). When we arrived, the place was crowded with lots of people. We headed inside to check out the stuff and talked to a couple of vendor sponsors. I was in rare form when I asked why there was Hooter girls out there but nothing for women to enjoy as far as eye candy. We checked out the bikes, sat on a few and tried on gloves. No, Mark, Lynn didn’t buy any gloves.
From there we headed over to Aspen Grove for lunch at Noodles & Co. I got to eat my first serving of tofu and enjoyed it. We ended the ride by heading over to Bonnie Brae Ice Cream Shop on University off of Evans. Parking was somewhat of an issue but we found street parking within a block. There was a line outside of the shop, but it moved quickly and we headed for benches that were placed along the side of the building. The ice cream was wonderful. We sat there and relaxed while watching the people. At this point, we parted ways and headed home.
