Wednesday High Plains RideRod & Carol Yeager - April 29th 2010Wow! This time of year it is really an advantage to be able to plan your rides by the weather report. The 28th of April was just that type of ride. The weather report said it was to be the nicest day of the week and rain and snow after it. Well it was a beautiful day, no clouds, some wind, and temps in the high 70, and low 80s. Don, Charles, Ron and myself met up at the Flying J in Aurora and headed east on US36. Taking the opportunity to explore a little and take an alternate road I managed to lead us thru a running river. The state has replaced a bridge with a very nice concrete drive, thru a creek bed that is usually dry. Well that was not the case on this day I slowed from 65 to about 30 and went thru, water everywhere over the windshield and all over the bike and myself. My riding campions noticing how much fun I had decided to do the same. When we stopped at the Dairy King in Last Chance to take a break it was highly recommended we skip that part of the ride next time and stick to the main route. By the way the Dairy King has been closed for sometime so no Ice Cream. We turned north and headed to Brush and noticed what had been a tailwind became a pretty good crosswind on occasion(namely when a semi came from the other direction). Nearing Brush there are some nice high speed curves which is a change from the straight line riding we had been doing all morining. We turned west, stopped for lunch in Ft. Morgan. We turned south at Wiggens and came back on Colo52 to Prospect Valley and Colo79 to Bennet took a break and home. The fields are really turning green along with the shrubs and trees. No Traffic and a very enjoyable day of riding. Except we used a lot more gas coming back into the wind. Click the thumbnails to enlarge. Mouseover for caption. |
