Wednesday Lunch 4/14/10
Rod & Carol Yeager - April 15th 2010
Sunshine, no wind, and not a cloud in the sky, one of those early season days if you are not riding you wish you were. Like the movie "The 3 Musketeers" four of us (Charles, Ron, Nancy and myself) pulled out of Morrison Conoco on time (Nancy was early) and headed north on 93 towards Boulder. We bypassed the "cone zone" on Broadway by using US 36 to Lyons. Only a few bicycle riders on the road. A nice ride to Estes Park on clear roads. We decided to have lunch at Penelopes at the west end of Main in Estes. We all thought the fries were great, the hamburgers good, But Charles said he wouldn't order the Turkey burger again. After lunch Charles led on the peak to peak hwy. towards US 6. As we climbed higher, the snow was on both sides of the road and pretty much everything is still brown. From Nederland south there was still quite of bit of gravel on the road, but the sweepers were out clearing the roads. Charles took us thru downtown Allenspark to see the sites then onto the Blackhawk gas station for a break. We rode down US 6 to C-470 and split up to head for home. As Nancy and I headed East on E-470 we found the wind which remained our companion all the way to Parker. As the weather keeps improving we will have more midweek rides hope you can make some.
